In an attempt to satisfy over 80% of closet layouts while still being simple to use, our closet organizer design tool works for Reach In and Walk In closets with the typical square/rectangular shape with 3, 4 or 5 walls and a standard 96" or less ceiling height. However, if your closet has a unique layout, a slanted ceiling or any other characteristic that our design tool does not handle, we would be happy to create a design for you using our internal closet organizer design tool. In this article, we will discuss how to select and size each unit in your own closet organizer design. Once you have taken all your measurements (see Part One), selected the type of closet (Reach In or Walk In – see Part Two) and, if designing a Walk In closet, selected your layout (see Part Three), you are ready to add units to your closet design. This is where the real fun begins as you add the type of closet organizer units you need in the sizes that are custom to your closet.
If you are designing a Walk In closet, your will have the ability to view all your walls on one screen. When you are ready to add or change a closet organizer unit on a particular wall, click on the button below that wall (labeled “Edit Wall”). On each of these buttons, there will be a green “Completed” or a red “Not Completed” label. This signifies whether the wall is completely filled with closet units or if there is still some room left for you to fill.
Please note: In order to place a closet design on your shopping cart, all the walls must have the green “Completed” label.
Once you click on the “Edit Wall” button, you are taken to the page that allows you to add, change and/or delete closet organizer units from this wall in your closet design. The Back Wall edit page is the default design page for a Reach In closet design because only the Back Wall will hold closet units.
On the Edit Wall page, the closet wall is shown on the left side of the screen. Above each closet organizer unit is a blue down arrow . If you hover over this arrow, a drop down menu appears with options to change the unit, move it left/right or delete it.
Below each closet organizer unit is a text box with the width of each unit. This measurement is the inside width of the unit (i.e. it does not include the ¾” thick vertical panels). Therefore, if you were to add up all the measurements in the text boxes and add ¾” for each vertical panel, the total should equal the length of the wall (minus 3/8” that we leave for wiggle room during installation). In the picture below, the total width of this design is 24 + 24 + 24 + 23 7/8 = 95 7/8 for the units plus the vertical panels (5 x 3/4" = 3 3/4") equals a grand total of 99 5/8" (which is 3/8" less than the wall width of 100").
